This is one of my most favorite girl gang movies ever!!!
THE FEMALE BUNCH follows the story of a wayward young lady named Sandy who, finding herself bored and overwhelmed with her lackluster life and sleazeball boyfriend, decides to check out early, kick the bucket, bite the big one, if you know what I mean.
But after failing at this, she is instead whisked away by her co-worker to a secret ranch, inhabited by a group of women “who dare to do what other women only dream about!” After a torturous initiation ceremony, Sandy begins to actually feel happy to have so many new friends, despite how much they seem to bully her. But she soon finds out that their ranch is a cover for their drug-running operation from Mexico, and after witnessing some heinous crimes committed against border farmers and nosey men, she finally gets a grip and tries to make her big escape.
This movie is full of so much sex and drugs and violence! IT’S AWESOME.
Watch out for:
-The location of the ranch. It’s actually the Spahn Movie Ranch, headquarters of the Manson family. The Tate-Labianca murders took place in 1969. THE FEMALE BUNCH was filmed in 1969 but wasn’t released until 1971. That’s odd…
-Lon Chaney Jr. in his last film role, playing Monti, the alcoholic ranch hand who is in love with the leader of the Female Bunch. In one long, drawn-out scene he takes a shot of whiskey, and it looks like he might actually be SEEING GOD. (I suggest taking a shot with him for this part. Why not?) Also, something is horribly wrong with his vocal chords throughout the film. I’m pretty sure he had throat cancer and was going through some radiation treatments at the time. Seriously, you might think I’m kidding but I assure you I am not.
-This line: “I do what I wanna do when I wanna do it!” Not only is it really fun to repeat over and over with your friends, it’s also a really awkward moment in the movie. Very hilarious.
So all in all, not Oscar-worthy by any means, but here at MCRMC I don’t give a shit about that!! This movie is a really good time!!!
